Quotes
"Development and environmental stewardship must coexist and we must responsibly manage natural resources. Mine responsibly, drill responsibly, protect the climate, indigenous plants and land, but don’t stop developing.
If you stop that, you will have consequences further down the line."
“
Hon. Gwede Mantashe
Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, South Africa
"It is an honor to address you today at African Energy Week, an occasion
that brings together leaders, experts and advocates with a common
purpose of harnessing our energy future. It is about building an African
vision as a foundation for collective growth."
“
Hon. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa
Minister of Energy and Electricity, South Africa
"It is with great honor to speak at this opening ceremony of this year’s edition of African Energy Week. Congratulations to the organizers, the African Energy Chamber, for bringing us all together under the theme of Energy Growth Through an Enabling Environment. This conference is of great importance."
“
H.E. Diamantino Pedro Azevedo
Minister of Mineral Resources and Petroleum, Angola
"Every year, once a year, we come to Cape Town to talk about one of the
biggest challenges for our continent: a just energy transition. This is the time
to discuss energy transition and to find a way to consolidate the way people discuss the energy transition."
“
H.E. Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua
Minister of Hydrocarbons, Republic of Congo
"We should have a unified voice to fight against energy poverty. We have
the majority of our population without access to energy so we need to keep investing in the development of our energies, industries and countries."
“
H.E. SE Marcel Abeke
Minister of Petroleum, Gabon
"We have been gathering here at African Energy Week for the last couple of years to discuss energy matters. I would like to commend the African Energy Chamber for making this possible, every year since the
first."
“
Hon. Tom Alweendo
Minister of Mines and Energy, Namibia
"This is the African energy event. I would like to extend my heartfelt
congratulations to everyone for making this event a success. This year’s
theme addresses solutions to many challenges in the energy landscape
of the energy transition climate."
“
Hon. Antonio Oburu Ondo
Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Equatorial Guinea
"In Africa, if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together. It is absolutely ridiculous for the world to say that we should remain in energy poverty, with the low industrialization that we have. In order to develop solar, wind and green hydrogen, you need financing."
“
H.E. Heineken Lokpobiri
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Federal Republic of Nigeria
"Over a relatively short period, AEW has established itself as an authentic platform for the debate on, and education of important matters that touch on Africa’s energy sector. This annual gathering not only represents a meeting of minds but a powerful platform for important debate on the future of our continent – a future where energy security and sustainability are within reach."
“
Prof. Benedict Oramah
President & Chairman of the Board, Afreximbank
"I cannot think of a more splendid place to host this event: Cape Town.
My compliments to the organizers for the timely program of this year’s
event. This event is now truly a world-leading energy conference."
“
H.E. Haitham Al Ghais
Secretary General, OPEC
"I want to thank everyone for believing in us. If someone told us in
2021 that we would be here, we would not believe it. We have truly
built an African-led dialogue where African voices have shown that
we can have a conversation that attracts investment. We will continue
going down in history in 2025. We will write the next chapter."
“
NJ Ayuk
Executive Chairman, African Energy Chamber
"On the path to energy transition, we are focusing on three things: the first
is clean transport solutions; the second is LPG and clean cooking; and the
last is storage and infrastructure to be able to deliver this energy across the
continent. We need to move from oil and coal to natural gas but we need
to be realistic about where we are."
“
Anibor Kragha
Executive Secretary, ARDA
"As a developmental financing institution, we are focused on
sustainable investment. When we look at the upstream sector, we want
to work with partners who are very committed to enabling the
economy of Africa."
“
Taiwo Okwor
Vice President, Africa Finance Corporation
"A unified regulatory framework would be invaluable. By aligning
policies across African nations, we can create a streamlined
environment that encourages the investment needed."
“
Jonathan Dery
CEO, Adarco Energy
industry inclusive and open to change. What is key is innovation. The
future is not shaped by technology but driven by people."
“
King Lee
Head of Policy and Industry, Engagement, World Nuclear Association
"Representation matters and it’s not just about having the right policies
and legislation, it’s about going beyond that and shifting the mind-set
to practically implement that legislation."
“
Nokwanda Khumalo
General Manager: Mobility & Convenience, bp Southern Africa
"Africa is a vital continent with significant opportunities. Africa’s abundant energy resources can pave the way for a brighter future for all Africans. It is critical to support the creation of home-grown industries."
“

Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency
We talked
about Energy Week, but actually it's the energy of how many people are here. I'm not sure. Is it
3000, 3500? But the energy of all the discussions and from day one to where we are day three.
So, one is energy. I think number two is just the sheer diverse nature and you've got everything
from the governments and ministers and presidents to the companies, the NOCs, to the private
individuals, to educational and a good age range as wel!. So that diverse, inclusive nature. ,6,nd I
think the other bit is enthusiasm.

African Energy Week being for me the premiere of Africa Summit that focuses on frontier
nations, producing nations like yourself that gives us countries like Sierra Leone the platform to
sell. Sell might not be the best word to use, but to market Sierra Leone to the world. I think it has
been being exposed to network, being able to network with potential IOCs.
“
Foday Mansaray
DG, Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone
It's my second time. I've been here last year and I think I found the conference a very good
conference. First, the quality of the panels and the different sessions is very key. But also, the
networking around. I think what I found here is a conference where everyone meets from the oil
and gas industry, but also from the ministry level, service companies and banks also. So, I think
it's a way for us to meet and just to discuss around the opportunities.
“
Jean-Michel Jacoulot
CEO, Trident Energy)
it's been a great, great two days so far. Really excited. And the quality of the panels, the mix
of companies. We've been able to meet ministers, even presidents. Last night, during dinner, I
had a chance to talk to the president of Namibia, which is a new area with significant growth
potential.
The organizers did a really, really good job in selecting a good mix of international companies,
mid to small-sized companies such as ourselves as well as government-side institutions. So, a lot
of good meetings and we hope to live here with a lot more work and we want to come back next
year.
“
Edson Dos Santos
CEO, ETU Energias
Look, the great benefits that this conference brings access to governments, access to a very
wide audience. It's been fantastic to see how full the hall was this morning. So completely full to
the brim, standing room only. We were very encouraged to continue to see how participation
grows. And Angie mentioned this morning five years ago, the chamber was only 200 ,000
members and it's four million today. So that is really, really good to hear. So, we look forward to
having more discussions, more meetings and shaking more hands and hopefully doing more
deals.

We are very proud of our partnership with the African Energy Chamber. It is a pleasure for
me to be able to collaborate with NJ Ayuk. I've known him for a couple of years, and I believe he
is a force of nature. And basically, anything that we can do to support the goals of the African
Energy Chamber is very important.

Such conference It's very important because it brings together all involved people gives
them an opportunity to know last news to exchange some opinion, to exchange some views to
hear each other what it's possible to do for African energy needs

First Deputy CEO for Development & International Business, Rosatom
I think this is a great event because it brings together the authorities in a number of
countries and the companies big and small. So, I think over the next few days, I mean, there's a
good opportunity to meet. I'll personally will meet with a number of the representatives from the
countries in which we operate, I'll meet with a number of other companies here as well.
“
Mike Sangster
SVP, Africa E&P, TotalEnergies
first of all, is that this is a great forum. It's Africa for Africans. Yeah, we have, you know,
invitees and all of that, but it's the biggest forum where, you know, you touch the Angolan, you
touch the Mozambican, you touch, you feel warm. And that's very energizing, since we're talking
about energy. That's very energizing.

I've got to speak from the perspective that this is the third African Energy Week I've
had the opportunity to attend. And having observed from the first I attended in 2021 and last
year, this year, I appreciate that even the conversations that occur have a follower. And I think it's
again the genuine drive to utilize this opportunity to where Africans are conversing with fellow
Africans to take forward generally the solutions that have been arrived at. So, I think that for me
must be highlighted with the actual implementation and progression of those particular
agreements that have been established.
It also makes us realize that this Africa needs us to act and no one is going to do it for us. It
reiterates that message and it's important. It's important to know that it is in our hands and we
are capable.

Sandisiwe Ncemane

This is my second Energy Week. Bigger and better than last year, so very well done to all of
the organizers. It has been a wonderful, wonderful week, full of engaging sessions, presentations,
panels. Fantastic side events, cocktails, receptions and I've really enjoyed learning more about
how we can all collectively work together to end energy poverty in Africa. Thank you very much
and I'm looking forward to Energy Week 2024.

I think what's important is for the first time as a scientist, I've got to see the link between
investment and science and knowledge and all of these coming together. And I think this forum is
a good place that all of these aspects can join together. And I think there may be an opportunity
for more institutions, more schools, even like ourselves to come back and actually share the
conceptions that the youth have about energy because I guarantee it's very different from what
I'm learning at the conference.

Well, this is, I think, the third edition of African Energy Week. It's grown into a monster, it's
really big, it's a very busy program. They could have even perhaps spread it over a longer time,
you know, and still kept us all busy and interested. I've attended a few sessions, some plenaries,
I've met with a lot of people. Conferencing for me is a combination of maintaining and growing
networks, which is hugely important in this and every industry.
“
Nick De Blocq
CEO, Kinetiko)
I really enjoyed the conference and I found the discussion very insightful. I think the African
Energy Week has potential to grow. One of the things I think I enjoy, which we need to
encourage, is the fact that it's bringing African countries in terms of private and public sector, so
it's not just private sector during, but also the combination of both private sector and from
different countries coming together to try to harness the potentials within Africa. And one of the
things I was said by one of the speakers yesterday, which I found quite interesting, was the fact
that African countries need to start having discussions around uniting and putting together in
terms of standards for Africa. I'm impressed with the fact that the United States and Saudi Arabia
were very well represented.
“
Tunde Nwofor
CFO, Shoreline Natural Resources Limited
I would like to start by thanking NJ and the team for the wonderful organization of this
event. This has been a good platform where I was able to leverage and engage with senior
leaders in the oil and gas industry. The panels were very high quality, I was able to learn a lot,
make loads of good contacts. See you next year.

Testimonials
The AEW this year was a unique one because it really rallied personalities across the continent to come together to address key topics affecting the energy industry, and it was amazing seeing various leaders in a panel discussing each person, trying to make sure he convinced the audience so as to attract investment just like what the Minister of Mineral resources, oil and gas of Angola, Minister of Mines and Energy of Namibia, Minister of Petroleum of Gabon and
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources of Nigeria were all engaged to call for investment in their various countries. They said the government is ready to regularise their laws to attract investment in energy sectors. That was a huge push from both ministries. It was really amazing. Indeed; we also had a summit for financing from various countries who came and said that they are ready to finance energy projects. Gala Night and awards were something worth it, as well as the jet energy concert from amazing artists. Almost 7000 attendees from across the world came for this event. It was an incredible experience, and we hope next year will be more than this one.

AEW2024 surpassed the previous evenpp23ts. The organizing team pulled all stops with the aesthetics and was very bold in expressing the essence of Africa. The speakers were
excellent and well prepared. We appreciate the quality and calibre of the discussions as they bring to the surface the challenges and possibilities that the continent is dealing with. Collaboration is key!

I've always enjoyed Africa Energy Week since its inception, and it continues to grow year on year. However, this is a significant platform for industry leaders, investors, and policymakers to convene and address Africa's energy challenges and opportunities. The event facilitated
insightful discussions on critical topics such as energy access, renewable energy integration, and financing solutions. The exhibition showcased a diverse range of innovative technologies and projects, highlighting the growing potential of Africa's energy sector.
“
Nigel Cloete
Bonisana Investment Holdings
My first time attending African Energy Week and it certainly feels like it has become THE
African energy conference, based on the number of high level attendees from both governments and companies. My main reason for attending is the intelligence I can gather in the talks and conversations.
“
Jimmy Boulter
CEO, ETU Energias
Of all the African energy sector conferences I have joined, African Energy Week has the highest-profile attendance. This includes both public- and private-sector attendees. This makes AEW the ultimate networking opportunity in the industry and includes panels with insights from the very top of the sector.

I would like to start by thanking NJ and the team for the wonderful organization of this
event. This has been a good platform where I was able to leverage and engage with senior
leaders in the oil and gas industry. The panels were very high quality, I was able to learn a lot,
make loads of good contacts. See you next year.
