Palmiet Power Station
ABOUT
The Eskom Palmiet Power Station is a hydroelectric pumped storage facility located near Grabouw in the Western Cape, South Africa. It plays a key role in stabilizing the national pow-er grid by providing peak electricity supply during times of high demand. The station operates by using surplus electrici-ty to pump water from a lower reservoir to an upper reservoir, and then releasing the water to generate power when need-ed. Situated within the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, the Palm-iet Power Station is notable for its environmentally conscious design, blending advanced engineering with the surrounding natural landscape.
Start your morning with a guided tour of the Eskom Palmiet Power Station, where you’ll learn about its innovative hydro-electric technology and environmental efforts. Then, head to Almenkerk Wine Estate in the scenic Elgin Valley for a wine tasting session and an exclusive cellar tour. Non-wine drink-ers can enjoy a delightful charcuterie platter. For lunch, savor the smoky flavors at The Hickville Smokehouse. The after-noon allows for relaxation and exploration before concluding your day amidst the beautiful surroundings of the Elgin Valley.
