The African Energy Chamber has partnered with Rystad Energy and the African Export-Import Bank for the Invest in African Energy event in London to drive European investment across Africa’s energy sector.

Namibia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy Petroleum Commissioner will lead discussions on investment and opportunities emerging across Namibia’s energy landscape.

Following an agreement forged during the Namibian International Energy Conference in 2022, a youth training initiative launched by Namibia and Equatorial Guinea has set the tone for an ambitious local content drive that will position Namibia as a competitive hydrocarbon producer.

Exploring new opportunities for financing energy projects in Africa, the African Energy Chamber will host a special New Year reception at the Waldorf Hilton in London, which will support European investment opportunities across the continent and drive economic growth and socioeconomic development.

In late 2019, as the African oil and gas industry was looking to the future with optimism, Offshore Engineer wrote that the continent was had reason to expect a “more productive 2020.” Instead, the unforeseen happened, and the COVID-19 pandemic had a devastating impact on the oil and gas industry in Africa and around the world.

It didn’t surprise me when TGS, the Norwegian seismic data company, announced last May that it would work with National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) to reprocess more than 5,100 square kilometers of 3D seismic data captured in the offshore Liberian basin. After all, the company has a 20-plus year history working in west Africa. TGS has helped countries strengthen their petroleum laws and supported authorities’ efforts to promote licensing rounds and farm-outs.

Global energy major, Eni, has announced the launch of a second floating liquefied natural gas facility offshore the Republic of Congo in a move set to amplify the country’s LNG production and exports.

In an exciting move by its Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, South Africa is taking critical steps towards opening up both on- and offshore licensing rounds, laying the foundation for energy security and self-sufficiency to follow.
